As one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the U.S. Christmas is recognized as a public holiday. However, at its roots, Christmas is a Christian holiday and its status as a public holiday sends negative implications to other religious communities such as the Muslim and Hindu communities who do not have any of their holidays recognized as public holidays.
